Apparently, "bear number 753" — whom the community has named Hope — had broken into a few neighborhood homes in search of easy food. But community members have noticed that many of these homes had open or unlocked doors and windows. There is an easy solution to this, and it's not death for the bear! Authorities have not accused Hope or Bounce of any violence towards humans. These bears have just been trying to survive in a landscape that is increasingly full of people. Community members have proposed many alternative solutions to killing this foraging bear. Officials could create public education campaigns that teach residents to actually close and lock all their doors and windows — a basic and common-sense prevention method. They could also require all homeowners to install electrical wiring around their homes or properties, which would deliver a non-lethal shock to curious bears. Finally, they could even relocate "habituated" bears to more remote, less-populated areas. We must stand by Hope the mamma bear, Bounce her cub, and the Tahoe community! While they were located in different towns, the incidents both happened within hours of each other. Demartravion "Trey" Reed was only 21 years old and a student at Delta State University. Authorities have said there are videos of the young Black student's death, but they are keeping those contents quiet. Instead, local officials have claimed that Reed supposedly died by suicide, disputing the notion that there could be evidence of 'foul play.' Cory Zukatis was 36 years old. He was found in a forest and already his case is being met with dismissive tones by referencing the difficulties he faced in life, including homelessness. While Zukatis was white, his plight also reminds us of the cruelties inflicted on unhoused persons. The fact that these hangings were discovered on the same day reminds us of the horrors that have been inflicted, especially on Black people, for generations. The NAACP posted a statement voicing "skepticism" about the police's preliminary findings regarding Reed's death, stating: "we offer this piece of history with a level of certainty: Our people have not historically hung ourselves from trees..." Reed's family has hired civil rights attorney Ben Crump to push for an independent autopsy and full investigation, while Congressman Bennie Thompson from Mississippi is urging the FBI to investigate. Why? Because in most of Wyoming, killing wolves is completely legal — and hunters can use any method at all to do so. The so-called "Wolf Captor" of Wyoming made international headlines after he injured a wolf cub — using a snowmobile to run it over until it could hardly move — and then muzzled the animal, keeping it captive and parading it around town, before ultimately killing it. He even brought the defenseless wolf to his local bar, where he took photos grinning while holding a beer in one hand — and roping the terrified animal in close. After he was done, he took the captive wolf out back behind that very same bar. And then he shot and killed it, after it had out-lived its entertainment purposes. Yet since wolves are considered vermin and predators in most of Wyoming, the state's Game and Fish department only penalized him with a $250 fine. Now, a year later, he's finally being faced with felony animal cruelty charges. But even now, Wyoming lawmakers still haven't set limits on how people are allowed to kill wolves — or even on how many wolves they may kill. What women who served need is better access to care and more efforts to protect them, not rules that put them at even higher risk. Burn pits with dead dogs showed the horrors at this facility

She's been accused of willfully starving dogs, neglecting them, and burning their remains. Some dogs died that way, and their corpses were left to simply rot in the sun. A black trash bag just barely concealed a dead dog. A different container had been stuffed with partially-burnt dogs. According to official records, the owner of the Freedom Ranch Laredo facility was allegedly withholding food, proper water, medical care, and sanitary conditions from the animals there. Based on text messages with another associate of the facility, it appears she knew she was doing this and that it was willful. There were nearly 30 dogs at the facility when authorities arrived. All of the dogs were seized from the premises — and the vast majority were very sickly. Most were severely malnourished, dehydrated, and underweight. Some had mange. One was sick with cancer. Others had diseases from parasites that had advanced past the point of intervention. Ultimately, veterinarians were forced to euthanize three of the dogs, though the others are in treatment. It's clear that the woman who owned the ranch requires psychological intervention, immediately, in order to keep others around her safe.
