States have regularly been sending out alerts warning residents of extreme winter weather, and the importance of being prepared in order to keep everyone safe. But a couple in Pennsylvania ignored these warnings. Instead, they left three dogs tied up outside their home, including one mama dog. The temperatures outside had dropped to the single-digits (Fahrenheit). That's around -15 Celsius.   Authorities didn't find any proper shelter, water, or even food outside for the desperate animals. The dogs, two females and one male, had as a result become "very skinny," with their skeletons protruding out through their emaciated skin.   Inside, they had squished seven puppies inside a crate — separated from their freezing mother. They needed access to their mother for her milk to feed them. Not only did the couple deny them that possibility, but they also withheld any other form of food or water. As a result, five of the puppies died. The couple have since been arrested and charged with over 30 counts of felony animal abuse. Regardless of what happens next, they must never be allowed around animals. They starved their newly-adopted dog until she almost died

After starving their dog Tara, they gave her away, claiming 'something was wrong' with her. Staff informed her new owners that Tara would need some medications and the pair allegedly said they were happy to do that and were looking forward to caring for the dog. Unfortunately, the opposite happened. Not only did they not provide Tara with the medicines she needed — but they didn't even provide her with food. In fact, they starved Tara so severely that she became nothing more than skin and bones, and nearly died. When the dog's body was on the brink of death, the pair surrendered her to a family member, claiming there was "something wrong" with the dog. Luckily, the family member immediately rushed her to a veterinarian. That's where they learned that Tara's starvation had led her body to begin shutting down. She would eagerly eat anything put in front of her. But because her organs were already preparing for death, she couldn't digest anything — she would either immediately begin vomiting or pooping. A specialized veterinarian team was able to save Tara and nurse her back to health, and the original pair who adopted her have been arrested on animal cruelty charges. But the most important thing is — they should never be able to adopt, take care of, or live with an animal ever again in the future. The animals were emaciated, standing in deep mud mixed with feces, suffering from infected wounds, overgrown hooves, painful dental issues, and untreated skin infections. One horse had a massive, maggot-infested wound crawling with thousands of larvae. This was not hidden. This was not new.
