Here are a few of the successes we celebrated last month thanks to your advocacy:

Paper Giant Agrees To Stop Destroying Rainforest
SuccessAsia Pulp & Paper Company (APP), the third largest paper producer in the world, has agreed on a new policy that will stop the company's destruction of natural forests in Indonesia. The company finally caved after incredible public pressure from activists including Care2 members. Read more.

Violence Against Women Act Reauthorized
SuccessDespite the best efforts of a handful of ultra-conservative Republicans, Congress reauthorized the Violence Against Women Act, a bill that has passed with bipartisan support for nearly twenty years. The bill provides essential resources to survivors of domestic violence. Read more.

Military Same-Sex Partners Receive Family Benefits
SuccessTwo years after the repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell," all military spouses and partners will finally be able to receive military identification cards as dependents. Same-sex spouses who sign a military "Declaration of Domestic Partnership" form will be eligible for a number of military family benefits. Read more.

Obama Demands a Plan for Climate Change
Success Many Care2 members have worked to combat climate change, but Congress doesn't seem to share our urgency. In his State of the Union address, President Obama declared that he would use executive power to tackle US carbon pollution. "If Congress won't act soon to protect future generations" from the threat of climate change, he warned, "I will." Read more.

Planned Parenthood No Longer Banned in Arizona
Success Last May, Arizona Governor Jan Brewer signed a bill into law last May that effectively prevented thousands of low-income Medicaid recipients in Arizona from choosing Planned Parenthood as a health and family planning provider. This February, a federal judge overturned it. Read more.

Massachusetts to Clamp Down on Shock Therapy in School
Success Education officials, State Attorney General Margaret Coakley, and others are making a move to regulate the notorious Judge Rotenberg Center in Massachusetts, reacting to public outcry (including a petition on Care2) over the school's controversial use of shock "treatment" on disabled students. Obama Asks Supreme Court to Ditch Gay Marriage Ban
Success The Obama administration made history by filing a brief opposing the anti-gay Defense of Marriage Act in the US Supreme Court case Windsor v. United States. In the brief, the Obama administration states, "Section 3 of DOMA violates the fundamental constitutional guarantee of equal protection." Read more.

Shell Oil Cancels 2013 Arctic Drilling Plans
Success Shell has announced that it will not conduct offshore drilling operations in the Alaska Arctic this year. This is a victory for millions who called, wrote letters and signed petitions pointing out the extreme risk of a major oil spill, and the scientific data that showed neither Shell nor the government was prepared to respond adequately to such a catastrophe.
