Instead, the owner was hoarding dogs in her home, where she neglected them terribly until they developed severe medical issues, including infections and malnourishment. Animal control agencies in multiple California counties, including Los Angeles, San Bernardino, and Kern, had been sending animals to the rescue until they became suspicious of "possible fraud." Animal control officers investigated the facility, where their fears were confirmed. Instead of "rescuing" pets, the owner had locked 15 dogs in her garage, and another 19 inside her home. The bedrooms were filled with feces and urine, and the stench of animal waste filled the entire property. There was no food or water in sight. Out of the 34 dogs, five were in such bad shape, officials had to rush them to emergency veterinary services. A veterinarian noticed deep wounds in multiple animals, some of which had become infected and begun smelling. Some dogs had lost up to 40 pounds since they entered her property. They caught him on video beating his dog until it was injured

In the video, officials could see the man using some kind of weapon made out of wood to beat the dog — and he did so ferociously enough that the dog was left with minor injuries. Authorities attempted to make contact with the man, but he locked himself inside his home and refused to engage. While inside, he allegedly yelled threats towards them, before later opening the door and attempting to assault them. They have since taken the man into custody and charged him with animal cruelty. The dog has been receiving veterinary care to ensure it makes a full recovery. We don't know what was going on in this man's life, but we do know that he cannot be trusted with or near animals again.
