Arfin, Climate change is already massively impacting every corner of the globe -- and poorer people are being hit the hardest. Studies have repeatedly shown the poorest countries on earth are suffering the worst consequences of climate chaos, even though they contribute almost nothing to the problem compared to rich, politically powerful countries. Devastating wildfires. Crop-destroying droughts. Fatal floods. Projections show these problems will likely only get worse.
The World Bank is an international financial institution, and it's main mission is reducing global poverty. By giving loans to poor nations to help improve standards of living and boost their economies, and financing large-scale projects ranging from local public health programs to energy and infrastructure, the World Bank can bolster low-income nations against the extreme effects of climate change before they happen, and help them recover afterwards.
But recently, Trump-appointed World Bank President David Malpass refused to state plainly that the burning of fossil fuels contributes to climate change, claiming that he is "not a scientist." This is a form of climate denialism, and anyone denying the scientifically proven reality of human-caused climate change is not fit to serve as a leader of one of the most important financial institutions in the world. Sign now to demand that President Biden immediately remove David Malpass from his position as President of the World Bank! |
