All across Canada in particular, companies are deforesting the boreal forest to create toilet paper. In fact, according to a recent report by the Natural Resources Defense Council, about six NHL-sized hockey rinks' worth of forest are destroyed every minute - just to meet growing demand for bathroom tissue.
Luckily, there are multiple options for producing toilet paper more sustainably. Some companies use 100% recycled content to make their bathroom tissue. Others use bamboo. Both options are better than chopping down millions of trees.
Procter & Gamble made over $80 billion in revenue last year. There is no excuse for a company worth hundreds of billions of dollars to continue contributing to deforestation.
