Arfin, It's a Wednesday evening. You realized you didn't pick up some of the ingredients for dinner, so you head to your local supermarket. You look through the produce and bread aisles. And then — with shock — you notice that among all the pantry-related items, there's also now a vending machine selling ammo for guns.
These bullet-selling vending machines are now installed in grocery stores in Texas, Alabama, and Oklahoma, with additional machines planned for Colorado and potentially more states.
Research shows that as access to guns — or ammo — increases, so do the rates of murder and suicide using firearms. In the first six months of 2024, the U.S. already bore witness to approximately 9,000 gun homicides, 17,000 gun-related injuries, and 284 mass shootings.
The U.S. already allows people to access guns and ammunition much too easily. Gun violence is now officially considered a public health crisis in this country. Parents are afraid to send their children to school, unsure if they'll return home. We don't need easy access to more bullets — we need stronger gun safety laws!
We must keep children, families, and all people safe from worsening gun violence. Sign the petition now to demand that U.S. states ban these vending machines, and instead pass laws requiring background checks and licenses for purchasing ammunition!
