Arfin,
The recent Summer 2024 Paralympics showcased incredible strength and inclusivity, but the world still falls short on true equity for disabled people. Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson, an 11-time Paralympic gold medallist and wheelchair user, experienced this harsh reality firsthand when she was abandoned without assistance at King’s Cross Station and forced to crawl off the train.
This shocking incident highlights a severe failure in the UK transportation system. Despite deadlines for making trains step-free by January 1, 2020, companies like London North Eastern Railway (LNER) continue to neglect accessibility, putting disabled people at risk and stripping them of their dignity and autonomy.
We must hold the Department for Transport (DfT) accountable. Sign the petition to demand that DfT enforce accessibility measures and ensure that all trains are truly accessible for everyone. It’s time to end this unacceptable treatment and secure equal travel rights for all.
