Arfin,
Over the past week, we have heard countless stories of the devastation Hurricane Helene wrought across the southeastern United States. One story in particular has not only underscored the catastrophic effects of climate change, but also the abominable response by certain corporations.
Impact Plastics in Erwin, Tennessee allegedly told employees to remain at the factory as floodwaters rose, resulting in multiple deaths and missing people. This inaction is not just irresponsible; it's pure evil.
Survivors recalled that management dismissed their concerns when power went out in the facility and the parking lot began to flood. As the situation escalated and the only way out started to disappear, workers were trapped and left vulnerable to the floodwaters. Some were swept away as they attempted to escape.
We cannot let corporations prioritize profits over people. It’s crucial that the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, which is already looking into these events, holds Impact Plastics accountable for their actions. As the Southeast heals from Hurricane Helene, we demand justice for Impact Plastics' employees be a part of that healing. Sign the petition to stand up for the employees of Impact Plastics and advocate for their right to a safe workplace.
