Arfin,
In recent years, an alarming trend has been popping up across Europe — alarming levels of toxic chemicals have been found in the water that people drink, bathe in, and give to their children. The chemicals are PFAS — also known as 'forever chemicals' because they never break down. Once they're in your body, they stay thereĂ¢¦forever.
In one town in Sweden, even young children have dangerous levels of PFAS in their blood. Another town in France has had to ban tap water altogether.
PFAS are linked to cancer, infertility, immune dysfunction, and more. And while there is an effort to phase out the PFAS-riddled firefighting foam at the center of the crises in France and Sweden, these chemicals are everywhere. From non-stick pans to waterproof jackets to food wrappers and electronics. They're also polluting ecosystems and having tragic effects on wildlife across the globe.
That's why we're demanding that the United Nations add PFAS to the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs), which is the global treaty that regulates and even bans dangerous chemicals.
