In a desperate attempt to save their daughter's life, the Vargas family sought and was granted humanitarian parole, allowing them to live in the United States for the urgent reason of getting Sofia lifesaving healthcare she couldn't get in Mexico. Now, Sofia is thriving because she is being treated at Children's Hospital Los Angeles.
Which is why it is so horrifying that the Trump administration terminated the Vargas family's humanitarian parole and ordered them to self-deport.
This is a glaring example of Donald Trump and his ilk taking the systems, policies, and standards that make the U.S. a beacon of strength and compassion and twisting them to serve his own sick, cruel ideologies. Humanitarian parole is a perfectly legal status that was put in place to help people like Sofia and her family, but all the Trump administration wants to do is deport anyone that doesn't conform to their idea of what a person in this country should look like.
P.S. A 4-year-old Mexican girl will die if she stops receiving healthcare in the United States, but the Trump administration wants to deport her anyway. Sign to call for her protection.
