The popsicle was invented in 1905 by an 11 year old boy named Frank Epperson. Accidentally leaving a mixture of water and soda, with a stirring stick, on his porch overnight he found a frozen pop in the morning. He initially named the frozen pop an "Epsicle" but when he got older his kids asked for a "Pop's" sickle and the name stuck. Americans eat on average 5 1/2 gallons of icecream a year.
