Dear Arfin,

Singapore's giant new aquarium has the potential to be an incredible resource for research and education. But so far, all the benefits of the project have been overshadowed by the aquarium's determination to put 25 wild dolphins on show.

Tell the aquarium's management: Don't put dolphins on display.

Dolphins and whales suffer immensely in captivity. No matter how large and well-run a facility is, it cannot hope to approximate the ocean, so the animals' can't exhibit natural behaviors. There isn't much to learn from dolphins who can't act normally.

The reason the aquarium wants these dolphins is clear: entertainment. But amusing tourists is not a good excuse to make these creatures suffer.

Tell the aquarium to release the dolphins in its care and abandon all plans to capture more.
