DID YOU KNOW?   Arbor Day dates back to 1872 when it was founded by J. Sterling Morton of Nebraska City, Nebraska. On April 10, 1872, the first Arbor Day was held and an estimated 1 million trees were planted. Arbor Day became a global event in 1883 when Birdsey Northrop of Connecticut visited Japan and delivered his Arbor Day and Village Improvement message. The American Forestry Association made Northrop the chairman of the committee to campaign for Arbor Day across the United States. He also spread the campaign to Europe, Canada and Australia.
