Congress is going to vote on today to repeal the '[0]incandescent light
bulb ban' that was put into place during the Bush administration. The
bill is supported by Republicans in Congress who are claiming this places
unnecessary restrictions on the market. For those of you wondering, it

micsaund writes "While Netflix has continued to drop fees and still

An anonymous reader writes "There's a fundamental flaw with
fan-and-heatsink cooling systems: no matter how hard the fan blows, a
boundary layer of motionless, highly-insulating air remains on the
heatsink. You can increase the size of the heatsink and you can blow more
air, but ultimately the boundary layer prevents the system from being
efficient. But [0]what if you did away with the fan? What if the heatsink
itself rotated? Well, believe it or not, rotating the heat exchanger
obliterates the boundary layer, removes the need for a fan, and it's so
efficient that it can operate at low and very quiet speeds. That's
exactly what the [1]Air Bearing Heat Exchanger, developed by Jeff Koplow
of the Sandia National Laboratories, has developed. It's even
intrinsically immune to the build up of dust and detritus!"

debates within Australia's technology communities, does this reflect the

[0]Hugh Pickens writes "PC Magazine reports that Richard Lutton, Apple's
current chief patent lawyer, is reportedly leaving the company after
[1]failing to block Android manufacturers from using iPhone-like features.
'It's possible that Apple's leadership wants the patent department to
become more effective, especially in terms of litigation,' says
intellectual property analyst Florian Mueller. 'They are probably
disappointed that the [2]first ITC complaint against HTC didn't go too
well.' ... In addition Apple is aggressively [3]seeking an injunction on
Samsung's flagship Galaxy lineup." Samsung also happens to be displeased
with Apple [4]using their former legal counsel.

smitty777 writes "A recent article in the Journal of Biogeography
describes research showing that 15% of the snails devoured by birds on a
Japanese island [0]can survive the digestive process. This is thought to
be the mechanism by which the snail populations can migrate from island
to island, similar to the way plant seeds are deposited. From the
article: 'In the lab, scientists fed the birds with the snails to find
out whether any survived the digestive process. "We were surprised that a
high rate, about 15 percent, of snails were still alive after passing
through the gut of [the] birds," explained researcher Shinichiro Wada.'"
As bad as riding in a bird's digestive tract sounds, I'd take it over
flying standby on a puddle jumper.

MC10, a three-year-old company making flexible electronics, is [1]taking
an old idea to new places. The startup is developing [2]health sensors

which tend to be inefficient, MC10 uses silicon islands linked by springy
interconnects. It's still early, but the company has new backing from
VCs, [3]Reebok, and the U.S. government to develop wearable devices,
