| Hi Arfin, Happy Veteran's Day! Send your Veteran's Day eCards from Care2! DID YOU KNOW? Also knows as Veterans Day, Armistice Day or Poppy Day, Remembrance Day is observed in Commonwealth countries to remember the sacrifices of members of the armed forces during times of war. The familiar red poppy you see on lapels everywhere became the symbol of Remembrance Day due to the poem "In Flanders Fields", believed to have been written by Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae. Red poppies bloomed across some of the worst battlefields of Flanders in World War I. Their luminous red color symbolized the blood spilled in the war. | |
