| Hi Arfin, Here's your latest eCards update! DID YOU KNOW? Ganesh Chaturthi is a celebration of the birth of Ganesha, the Hindu god of prosperity, wisdom and good fortune. The Indian social reformer Lokmanya Tilak transformed Ganesh Chaturthi from a family affair to a national festival in 1893. Recognizing the wide appeal of the deity Ganesha as "the god for everybody", Tilak popularized Ganesh Charturthi as a means to generate nationalism against the British rule. The festival served as a meeting ground for all communities, beyond caste divisions, during a time when the British discouraged political and social activism to keep control over the Indian population.
